On Sunday, August 9, 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the peace plan for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump. Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces would not withdraw from the Gaza Strip until Hamas was completely disarmed.

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said, "Israel rejects the 15-point document," referring to the US-backed roadmap agreed upon by Hamas in late July. Last month, Trump announced a breakthrough on the 15-point roadmap aimed at ending the war in Gaza. Hamas political bureau member Bassem Naim expressed expectations that mediators and the American guarantor would pressure Netanyahu's government to adhere to the roadmap and avoid obstruction for internal political reasons.

Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace's high representative for Gaza, stated that Israel would have no obligations until Hamas surrendered all its weapons, including assault rifles. He described the roadmap as "the only way forward that ensures this tragedy does not happen again," referencing the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the ongoing conflict.
