On Monday, August 10, 2026, President Trump demanded that Iran provide compensation for those who have died amid the ongoing military conflict between the two nations. This demand came after Tehran called for compensation for damages sustained during the conflict.

Trump addressed the issue on Truth Social, stating, “I see that Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran are asking for compensation for the damage done to them during the last five month Military Conflict (started because, THEY WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON), even though it was never mentioned in any of our negotiations or meetings!”

He described the idea as “interesting” and announced plans to start demanding compensation from Iran for all individuals killed or gravely wounded by roadside bombs and other conflicts. This includes those killed in the USS Cole attack in October 2000. Additionally, Trump called for compensation to be given to families of protesters killed in Iran over the last 50 years, including the 52,000 reportedly killed in the past five months.

The president indicated that compensation demands would be incorporated into future negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated over the weekend that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the U.S. “corrects its behavior,” according to CBS News. The statement reportedly demanded that the U.S. cease threatening Iran, end the war permanently, lift the naval blockade, and withdraw its military forces.

Trump also noted on Sunday that the U.S. is “only semi-negotiating” with Iran. A recent deal reportedly grants Iran partial control over incoming traffic, which some view as a concession.
