Power supply and air-conditioning disruptions affected multiple locations in Hong Kong on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, leaving residents struggling with the heatwave. In Yuen Long, approximately 2,400 households in Shui Pin Wai Estate and surrounding areas lost power after an underground cable fault occurred around 4 a.m.

Residents took to social media expressing distress; one wrote, “I cannot believe I have to live without electricity in Hong Kong … I will die without air conditioning in such weather.” Another reported that the entire estate lost electricity amid emergency vehicles’ presence, and that one person was carried downstairs amid an unusual odour. Many residents gathered outside their homes with fans to cope with the heat.

CLP Power, the electricity supplier for Kowloon and the New Territories, issued an apology to those affected and announced it would investigate the cause of the failure. Electricity supply to the area gradually resumed after 10:45 a.m.

These outages also impacted an office building and a funeral home, compounding the challenges faced during the ongoing heatwave.
