On Monday, August 11th, 2026, Yemen’s internationally recognised government accused Houthi forces of launching ballistic missile attacks on the Red Sea port city of al-Makha (also known as Mocha) and residential areas in the central city of Marib. These attacks follow a deadly Houthi missile strike the previous day that killed at least seven people and wounded 30 others in al-Makha.

Additionally, a Houthi drone strike in the south-central province of Shabwa killed two Yemeni government soldiers and wounded seven others, according to local media reports.

Yemeni forces have not confirmed whether the latest missile attacks on Monday caused any casualties. The ongoing tit-for-tat attacks represent the deadliest escalation in years within Yemen’s civil war, which has intensified following the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28th, 2026.

Observers warn that this escalation risks undermining the gains of the 2022 truce and could draw Yemen into a broader regional conflict with devastating consequences for its people.
