Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema is actively campaigning ahead of the presidential election scheduled for Thursday, August 13th, 2026. Nearly half of the registered voters in Zambia are aged between 18 and 35, making young people a crucial demographic in the election.

Addressing students, Hichilema urged them to campaign vigorously: "Are you ready to campaign? Campaign at the schools, colleges, in the rooms to your roommates, at the market when you are buying something, campaign in the bus -- everywhere."

Hichilema faces 13 other candidates, with his main challenger Brian Mundubile gaining momentum after securing support from a coalition of rival parties. The election will determine whether voters endorse Hichilema’s economic reforms for a second term or opt for change amid widespread dissatisfaction over the high cost of living.

The vote also serves as a test of Zambia's political stability following a campaign period marked by isolated incidents of violence.
