Overnight drone attacks targeted the Russian Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk and Ukraine’s southern port city of Kherson, killing three people, according to regional officials.
A Ukrainian drone strike on Novorossiysk from Tuesday night into Wednesday killed a child, injured another child and a woman, and damaged dozens of buildings, including homes, the city’s mayor, Andrei Kravchenko, reported. The strikes also damaged the Novorossiysk grain terminal, as confirmed by its owner, Demetra Holding.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated it downed and destroyed a total of 502 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that Kyiv had submitted proposals to US negotiators for a plan to end the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Additionally, Ukrainian officials quoted by The Financial Times said Kyiv has committed to halting drone strikes on oil tankers using Russia’s Novorossiysk port following a request from United States Vice President JD Vance at the end of last month.
Other recent developments include Russia freeing former US marine Gilman, who had been jailed since 2022, and Russia barring the only party opposing the war in Ukraine from the parliamentary vote.
