France has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Bruno Foucher, its top diplomat in the Central African Republic (CAR), following allegations that he brought around 30 women to his official residence in Bangui and engaged in sexual relations with some. These events reportedly occurred between January 2024 and March 2026.

The accusations prompted France's foreign ministry to investigate a potential security breach. A French diplomat informed the BBC that administrative procedures against Foucher are currently ongoing, though details about the nature and duration of these proceedings remain unclear.

Foucher, 65, has served as France's ambassador in Bangui since 2023. The allegations arise amid efforts by France and the CAR to improve their bilateral relationship, which had previously been strained. In March 2026, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot praised the "complete restoration of relations" between the two countries during a visit to Bangui.

Some of the women reportedly stayed overnight at the ambassador's residence, raising security concerns. The BBC has reached out to the French embassy in Bangui for comment.
