Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be honored with the Muhammad Ali Center’s Humanitarian of the Year Award later this year. The center selected Kaepernick for his advocacy against racial injustice and his support for underserved communities through his Know Your Rights Camp and other philanthropic efforts.

Lonnie Ali, Muhammad Ali’s late wife and co-founder of the center, praised Kaepernick, stating, "Colin has used his platform to advocate for equality, human dignity, and social change, even when doing so came at significant personal and professional cost."

Kaepernick is known for kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games, including a notable instance with seven San Francisco 49ers players before a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Levi's Stadium. This act of protest has sparked debate regarding its comparison to Muhammad Ali’s sacrifices, who risked his freedom and prime boxing career by refusing military induction during the Vietnam War.

The award highlights Kaepernick’s ongoing commitment to social justice and community support through his philanthropic initiatives.
