Matthew Mayich, a hockey player for the Arizona State Sun Devils and the St. Louis Blues' 170th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, remains hospitalized after collapsing during an off-ice training session last Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to The Athletic, Mayich collapsed during a workout, and ASU confirmed the incident without naming the student-athlete due to privacy concerns. Chris Fiscus, vice president of ASU media relations, stated, "A student-athlete who collapsed during an outdoor exercise Thursday morning remains hospitalized. The university is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the workout."

Mayich spent the previous season with the Clarkson University Golden Knights before transferring to Arizona State for the upcoming college hockey season.

League commissioner Bryan Crawford expressed support, saying, "Our thoughts are with Matthew, his parents John and Christina and the entire Mayich family," as reported by TSN. The Blues organization also extended their support, noting they are keeping Mayich close to their hearts and praying for his comfort and recovery while he continues medical treatment in Arizona.

His agent has been providing updates on his medical status over the past week, and the hockey community has rallied around Mayich, his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
