At least 47 people were killed, more than 50 others kidnapped, and 22 injured in a gang raid near Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, according to the United Nations. The attack occurred on the evening of August 23 in the town of Kenscoff, a strategic hillside area.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the raid and said it underscores "the alarming security situation in Haiti" driven by gang activity. He criticized the violence amid repeated deadly attacks in the country.

Jean Massillon, mayor of Kenscoff, reported that armed men "sowed disruption" by setting homes on fire and killing residents. Kenscoff resident Marc Paul, 42, said gangs kidnapped several members of his family, including his brother, stepmother, stepfather, and two cousins. He also recounted that his 16-year-old niece was captured and raped but managed to escape and reunite with him.

The United Nations' report on the raid has prompted widespread anger over the ongoing violence in Haiti.
