At least three American tourists are among a preliminary total of 384 people reported missing following severe flash flooding in Nepal's northern Rasuwa district near the Tibet border. The flooding occurred around 8:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, according to authorities.
The Nepal Tourism Board stated that the missing include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals. The three Americans were traveling with a Nepali company, Fishtail Tours and Travel. Efforts to locate and rescue the missing tourists are ongoing, though the company has not provided further details on their whereabouts or condition.
Houses were reported partially submerged in muddy water along a riverside in Trishuli Bazar, located in Nepal's Nuwakot district. The Nepal Tourism Board also said local tourism and law enforcement authorities are working to verify the safety status of tourists and travelers in the affected areas.
Rescue operations are continuing via air transport, as confirmed by the Nepali Army. Additionally, the flooding reportedly caused casualties on the Chinese side of the border at the Gyirong border crossing, according to the Chinese state-run Xinhua News Agency.
