Edge Early Learning's childcare centre in Charnwood, located in Canberra's Belconnen area, has been ordered to close for three months following a suspension notice issued by the Children's Education and Care Assurance (CECA) regulator. The closure is set to begin on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
This suspension comes about a month after another Edge Early Learning centre in nearby Higgins was shut down immediately due to concerns over its handling of a serious medical incident involving a child. The specific reasons behind the Charnwood centre's suspension have not been disclosed.
Edge Early Learning has entered voluntary administration nationally. In a statement, the provider said administrators were appointed to "review the business and work with key stakeholders to determine the best path forward," allowing the company "to assess its financial position and consider options for its future."
Despite the suspension and administration, Edge Early Learning stated it is continuing to operate all centres "on a business-as-usual basis." The company emphasized that there will be no changes to care arrangements, centre opening hours, or staffing, and families are encouraged to continue attending as normal.
Edge Early Learning retains the right to appeal the suspension decision and is legally required to communicate the suspension to affected families. The immediate focus remains on maintaining the safe and ongoing operation of each centre while the urgent review is conducted.
Parents have expressed surprise, stating they were unaware of the Charnwood centre's impending closure.
