Poland's leading video game developer, CD Projekt RED, announced on August 26, 2026, that it will release a remastered version of its 2015 hit "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" on September 29, 2026. This release comes ahead of a new expansion titled "Songs of the Past," scheduled for launch in 2027.

The announcement was made during the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom, the world's largest video game trade fair, where the company showcased trailers for both the remastered game and the upcoming expansion. While the exact release date for "Songs of the Past" has not been specified, the 2027 launch timeline was confirmed.

"The Witcher 3" has won over 250 Game of the Year awards and has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide since its initial release. The remastered version will be available as a free upgrade to all owners of the original game across multiple platforms, including GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, a native version will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2.

All current owners of the base game will also receive free access to the two existing expansions, which will be included in the remastered edition. CD Projekt RED's level design lead, Miles Toast, highlighted the opportunity this update presents: "This maps a great opportunity for people, who have perhaps only played the base game, to jump in with the improvements on the remaster update and get a whole lot of stuff for free before we ship the Songs of the Past."

This move aims to reinvigorate the player base and set the stage for the upcoming expansion, continuing the legacy of one of the best-selling video games of all time.
