China’s President Xi Jinping is set to travel to Egypt in the coming days for his first state visit to the country in a decade. During the visit, he will hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi aimed at enhancing their comprehensive strategic partnership across multiple areas of mutual interest.

The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, established in May 1956. This partnership was elevated to a comprehensive strategic level during President El-Sisi’s first official visit to China in December 2014.

Bilateral relations have seen significant growth since then. Economic cooperation has expanded, with Egyptian companies signing 17 export contracts worth approximately $168 million with Chinese buyers last month. These contracts cover agricultural products, textiles, minerals, and engineering goods.

Defence cooperation has also increased, highlighted by the joint air exercise "Eagles of Civilization 2026" held at Egyptian air bases earlier this month. According to Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, bilateral trade reached about $19.52 billion in 2025, with China recognized as one of Egypt’s largest trading partners.

The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on international and regional issues of common concern during the visit.
