Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, as part of a state visit before traveling to Egypt from August 30 to September 3, according to Beijing’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the SCO summit, which includes member states such as Russia and Iran, Xi will discuss deepening cooperation and address major international and regional issues, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during a daily news conference.

During his visit to Kyrgyzstan, Xi will hold talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and participate in various state events. Following the SCO summit, Xi will travel to Egypt for his first state visit there in 10 years.

In Egypt, Xi is set to meet President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss ways to contribute positively to peace and stability in the region. Lin Jian emphasized that this visit holds special significance for the development of bilateral ties between China and Egypt.

China maintains significant economic relations with the Middle East, which was its top source of crude oil imports before the war.
