Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s commercial center, is set to introduce a low-emission zone (LEZ) aimed at reducing air pollution by gradually restricting petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles in its downtown area starting mid-2027. According to the state-run Thanh Nien newspaper, the city will pilot the LEZ from July 2027, covering approximately 930 hectares (2,300 acres) including the core downtown and the new Thu Thiem urban area.

From early 2029, the LEZ is planned to expand to the area within the city’s Ring Road 2, which currently restricts heavy trucks and sleeper buses during certain hours. This timeline is a revision from an earlier proposal that had aimed for implementation earlier in 2026. The updated plan aligns with the rollout of green transport infrastructure and allows residents and businesses additional time to transition to compliant vehicles.

The initiative reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s efforts to improve air quality and promote sustainable urban transport.
