A medical organization has accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), a rebel group aligned with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), of killing 27 people, including four children, in Sudan’s South Kordofan province.
The Sudan Doctors Network issued a statement on Tuesday, August 26th, 2026, saying the attacks occurred in Qardud and Abu Hamama, areas inhabited by the Otoro tribe. The violence has caused a large wave of displacement towards the Abu Hitan area and Kadugli.
The group condemned the targeting of unarmed civilians on ethnic grounds as a clear violation of international humanitarian law and warned that ongoing violations risk escalating the conflict into a broader ethnic war.
The humanitarian situation in Sudan remains dire, with the World Health Organization reporting that approximately 33.7 million people—two-thirds of the country’s population—require humanitarian assistance. Fighting in Kordofan has displaced over 200,000 people, many seeking safety in El Obeid refugee camps, where conditions are worsened by a water crisis.
