Bryan Kohberger, who pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students, has been granted a new hearing to attempt to withdraw his guilty plea, according to court filings.

Kohberger was arrested in 2022 for the murders of roommates Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kernodle's boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, at an off-campus house on King Road in Moscow, Idaho. He pleaded guilty weeks before his trial was set to begin, resulting in four consecutive life sentences for first-degree murder and an additional 10 years for burglary. The plea deal removed the death penalty from consideration.

Last month, Kohberger filed a petition for post-conviction relief, claiming without presenting new evidence that he was lied to and pressured into a false confession, and that information was withheld which might have aided his defense. Kohberger was a criminology student at Washington State University at the time of the murders.

His new evidentiary hearing has been scheduled for June 17, 2027, at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho.
