Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling is facing two assault charges related to an incident at the NT Thai Grand Festival in Darwin on July 18, where he allegedly struck Northern Territory Administrator David Connolly with his elbow. Mr. Gosling has categorically denied all allegations and stated he will contest the charges in court.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) has declined to take carriage of the prosecution after reviewing the powers granted under the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1983 (Cth), determining it could not conduct the state or territory prosecution request. Previously, Northern Territory prosecutors also declined to handle the case, citing a perceived conflict of interest, and are now "considering alternative arrangements."

David Connolly was sworn in as NT Administrator in February 2026, five months before the alleged assault. The next court mention for the case is scheduled for September 30, 2026. Mr. Gosling has declined to comment further while the case remains before the court.
