Hong Kong has strengthened its position as Asia’s most international city, widening its lead over Singapore according to the latest Asian Cities Internationality Index released on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The index, compiled by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, scored Hong Kong 74.6 out of 100 points across seven key areas, placing it first among 11 Asian cities.

Hong Kong’s lead over Singapore increased to two points, up from just 0.2 points last year. The city retained the top spot in business and economy with a score of 78.6 points. It also ranked second in quality of life, infrastructure and connectivity, and human capital diversity.

Notably, Hong Kong rose from fourth to third place in innovation and ideas, while maintaining third place in government and legal systems for business and fourth in cultural interaction for the second consecutive year.

Jacob Kam Chak-pui, chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, said the city performed well in research and innovation exchanges through its universities and scientific work. He also highlighted Hong Kong’s success in attracting leading global professionals via talent admission schemes. However, the city still trails behind in attracting technology investment.
