A 13-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries after crashing his e-scooter on Macrossan Street in Childers, Queensland, on Wednesday, August 27th, 2026, just after 6pm. Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash approximately 400 kilometres north of Brisbane. Paramedics performed CPR before the boy was airlifted to Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition.
Bundaberg Highway Patrol officer in charge Gordon Hard stated that the circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear. Police have appealed for anyone with dash cam or other footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
This incident marks the second serious e-scooter accident in the region, following the death of a 39-year-old Hervey Bay man in July involving an e-scooter and an electric skateboard.
Sergeant Hard warned about the dangers of high-speed electric scooters and bikes, saying, "Anything that's travelling at 70, 80, 90, up to 100 kilometres an hour, either an e-scooter or an e-bike is dangerous and nothing good can happen for them."
Authorities are urging parents to reconsider allowing children to use illegal or high-powered e-scooters and e-bikes. To the best of available knowledge, the injured boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
