Bouchard, Hines to clash for open James seat in competitive Michigan House race

Former prosecutor Christina Hines is projected to win the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ, setting up a closely-watched battle against GOP nominee Mike Bouchard in November.

John James’s (R-Mich.) decision to run for governor has left the Macomb County district without an incumbent for the first time since it was redistricted in 2022, making it a key battleground for both Democrats and Republicans in the Wolverine state.

In the three-way Democratic contest between Hines, former Commerce Department official Eric Chung and former state House Minority Leader Tim Greimel, Hines was considered a clear favorite over the rest of the candidates.

While Hines had raised the least amount of money in the field, she still held a 23-point lead over the fundraising juggernaut Chung ahead of the primary, according to a poll commissioned by EMILY’s List, which backed Hines.
