The woman leading the royal commission on antisemitism has responded to comments from a prominent member of the Jewish community who accused pro-Palestinian groups of attempting to "hijack" the inquiry through "clickbait theatrics and gratuitous slurs".

The Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) and the Palestine Action Group (PAG) were given leave to appear at the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion on Tuesday to question Jewish Board of Deputies president David Ossip.

Mr Ossip was called to give evidence about how the Jewish community was affected by a controversial protest organised by PAG, which saw participants march from the Town Hall to the Sydney Opera House on October 9, 2023.

Counsel for APAN, Ragni Mathur SC, pressed Mr Ossip on comments he made about the timing of protest.
