Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) are pressing the Office of the Inspector General in the Department of the Interior to investigate recent issues with the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
“We write to request that the Office of Inspector General investigate what employees of the Department of the Interior (DOI) knew—and when they knew it—regarding the peeling of the coating and other engineering issues at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool,” Heinrich and Whitehouse said in a Tuesday letter.
Heinrich and Whitehouse pointed out that the Department of Justice (DOJ) moved Friday to drop a criminal prosecution of an Olympian who had been charged with causing damage to the Reflecting Pool, “noting in its pleading that documents it received from DOI after the indictment ‘indicated a rushed and flawed installation process, with repeated failures of the lining during the installation process.'”
Attorney Jeanine Pirro “choked” in her decision to drop charges against Olympian David Hearn and blamed the judge overseeing the case.
