Former Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, demanding a court order to preserve records related to criminal investigations targeting him. Brennan, who led the CIA from 2013 to 2017, is seeking preliminary injunctive relief to protect his constitutional rights as he faces two federal investigations.
According to the lawsuit reviewed by Fox News Digital, Brennan alleges these investigations were initiated "at the direct urging of President Trump." The suit further claims that some leaders within the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have complied with this direction, effectively turning the Justice Department into a tool for retribution against Brennan and other perceived adversaries of the President.
The legal action highlights Brennan's contention that the investigations amount to "phantom criminal conduct." He has publicly spoken on election security issues, including at a 2019 forum titled "2020 Vision: Intelligence and the U.S. Presidential Election" held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
This lawsuit underscores ongoing tensions between Brennan and the Trump administration regarding federal investigative actions.
