The Australian Space Agency (ASA) has identified the likely origin of mysterious spherical objects recently found on Australian shores. According to the ASA, the objects "appear to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle" and their "location and characteristics are consistent with debris from a foreign rocket body that recently re-entered the atmosphere from orbit."

Local interest in the objects was notable, with Forrest Beach Takeaway owner Lisa Scobie commenting that the community was curious about their origin. She told public broadcaster ABC, "It's very quiet, not a lot happens here. So having a lot of extra activity... that definitely created a little bit of excitement."

This is not the first time such debris has been found in Australia. In 2023, India confirmed that a giant metal dome that washed up on a Western Australian beach near Perth was from one of its rockets. India's space agency spokesman later told the BBC that it originated from one of its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV).

Similar spherical objects have also been discovered elsewhere, including in remote grassland in Namibia, southern Africa, in 2011. Experts at the time believed these were likely fuel or bladder tanks containing hydrazine, a highly volatile propellant, from unmanned rockets.

These findings highlight the ongoing presence of space debris impacting Earth’s surface and the global interest in tracking and identifying such objects.
