Myanmar is accelerating the development of transportation and energy infrastructure with support from China, Russia, and India. These countries are expanding their influence in Myanmar, a strategically important logistics hub in Southeast Asia. Notably, China is assisting in building an economic corridor to the city of Kyaukphyu, which will provide access to the Indian Ocean. A jetty for oil tankers was observed in Kyaukphyu in 2015, highlighting the area's role in regional transit and energy routes.
This collaboration reflects emerging nations' efforts to establish new transportation routes to bypass geographic chokepoints, enhancing connectivity across Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
