Paul Pelosi, 86, could face a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge after allegedly crashing his convertible into a legally parked car in Napa County, California, and driving away.

Napa County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) deputies responded to a 911 call shortly after 2:30 p.m. on July 3 at the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville. A witness reported seeing a brown convertible strike the rear of an empty parked car, pushing one tire over the curb before briefly stopping and then fleeing the scene.

Deputies located the damaged convertible a short distance away on Yountville Cross Road, where a California Highway Patrol unit was already present. The vehicle had heavy damage to its front right side. Deputies identified the driver as Paul Pelosi through his license.

Pelosi told authorities he was aware he had hit something but could not specify what. A roadside breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.00, clearing alcohol as a factor.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has referred the case to the Napa County District Attorney to consider a misdemeanor count of hit and run causing property damage. Pelosi has also been referred for a driving re-evaluation by the state motor vehicle agency, a routine step for older drivers.

A spokesperson for Pelosi stated to The California Post that he has personally apologized to the owner of the damaged vehicle and assured responsibility for the repairs. Pelosi will not be commenting further on the matter.

This incident is not Pelosi’s first legal issue related to driving. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI after crashing his Porsche, resulting in five days in jail and three years of probation, according to the Associated Press.
