Anti-Trump voices online celebrated the U.S. men's national soccer team's 4-1 loss to Belgium in the World Cup on Monday night, following President Donald Trump's intervention with FIFA to have an American star player cleared to play.

Folarin Balogun, a key player for the U.S. team in earlier tournament rounds, had received a red card during a win over Bosnia and Herzegovina last week after stepping on a defender's ankle while contesting the ball. The red card carried a one-game suspension that would have prevented Balogun from participating in Monday's match.

President Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino, requesting a review of Balogun's red card. On Sunday, FIFA announced that Balogun's suspension would be suspended but stated that Trump's call did not influence their decision.

Despite Balogun being allowed to play, the U.S. team delivered a lackluster performance and lost 4-1 to Belgium. This outcome sparked celebrations among Trump opponents on social media platforms such as Bluesky. Comments included accusations that Trump tried to manipulate the officials and expressions of satisfaction over the U.S. defeat.

The U.S. team will now wait four years for another chance at World Cup redemption.
