FIFA suspended two officials from the United States Soccer Federation ahead of the 2026 World Cup match against Belgium, citing alleged mishandling of match protocols during Team USA's victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. The suspended staff included the Soccer Federation Vice President of Security, Frank Pannell.

Despite the suspensions, FIFA overturned the red card suspension of Team USA forward Folarin Balogun, allowing him to participate in the crucial match against Belgium. However, the Belgian team was expected to appeal FIFA's decision, adding uncertainty before the game.

The United States ultimately lost 4-1 to Belgium, ending their run in the tournament.

Former President Donald Trump commented on the controversy, stating he watched the disputed play and later contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss the red card decision. Trump also expressed his view that the incident was not a foul but rather two athletes colliding and becoming entangled.
