Mauricio Pochettino, head coach of the US Men's National Team (USMNT), is expected to take time to consider his future with the team after their 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

US Soccer issued a statement implying they want Pochettino to continue leading Team USA. Prior to the World Cup, the federation and Pochettino had positive discussions about the future, reflecting a strong working relationship.

Pochettino, who was hired just under two years ago, brought extensive European coaching experience from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. His tenure began with challenges, including a 2-1 loss to Mexico in the Gold Cup Final, but the team showed moments of promise, including a dominant 4-1 victory during the World Cup group stage and a 2-0 win over Australia.

Speaking about his future, Pochettino said, "Right now it’s about resting a little bit, to think, to have conversations with the federation to see what the decision is. I’m so happy. We’ve built a very good relationship. Now is not a moment to talk about [my future]."

The USMNT's World Cup campaign included notable moments such as Pochettino consoling Christian Pulisic after a substitution in the Round of 16 match against Belgium.

US Soccer's statement and Pochettino's remarks suggest ongoing collaboration as the team looks ahead following the tournament exit.
