In the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match on July 7, Belgium defeated the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) 4-1. Following Belgium’s fourth goal, players on the Belgian squad mocked the US team by performing President Donald Trump’s iconic “Trump Dance.”

The match occurred shortly after FIFA announced that US forward Folarin Balogun was allowed to compete despite a red card he received days earlier in a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. This decision was met with criticism from the Belgian team and the Royal Belgian FA, which expressed astonishment and said it was investigating all potential options to safeguard teams’ rights.

President Trump had called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review Balogun’s red card suspension and commented on the decision, stating that Belgium should be happy with the outcome. Trump said, “The people in Belgium—if they win the game, they can be very proud. If they would have won the game with the player missing, it would have been a different feeling.”

The Belgian team’s use of the Trump Dance to celebrate on US soil was noted as a particularly sharp taunt, especially given Trump’s involvement in advocating for the review of Balogun’s suspension.
