Carlos Queiroz has resigned as head coach of Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, following their 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup. The 73-year-old Portuguese coach announced his resignation via an Instagram post on July 6, 2026, expressing pride in the team's efforts despite falling short of their ambitions.

"We cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honored the colors of Ghana," Queiroz wrote. He also urged reforms off the pitch to secure the future success of Ghanaian football.

Queiroz took over the team in April 2026, replacing Otto Addo after a string of four consecutive defeats. Under his leadership, the Black Stars began the World Cup with a win over Panama, followed by a goalless draw against England, which helped them qualify for the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams despite a group-stage loss to Croatia.

The team faced challenges off the field as well, including midfielder Thomas Partey missing the opening match due to a denied visa to Canada, an issue that drew criticism from the Ghanaian government. Partey later participated in matches held in the United States against England, Croatia, and Colombia.

With Queiroz's departure after just a few months in charge, the Ghana Football Association is expected to begin the search for a new head coach ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
