Former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao is currently in China on a long-planned trip supporting her family's philanthropic efforts, according to a spokesperson. Despite her husband, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), being hospitalized for over two weeks, the spokesperson told Fox News Digital that McConnell's health did not warrant an immediate return to the U.S. and that the trip was not canceled due to the seriousness of his condition.

During her trip, Chao met with several individuals, including the U.S. ambassador in China.

McConnell's condition remains unclear amid circulating rumors. Conservative commentator Laura Loomer claimed that a "high level source close to the White House" stated McConnell was "brain dead" and "isn’t ever coming back." This claim followed leaked audio from an emergency dispatch on June 14, the day McConnell was hospitalized, indicating he was "unconscious" and may have suffered a heart attack. McConnell’s office responded by reiterating a previous statement without confirming these claims.

A McConnell spokesperson expressed gratitude for the support he is receiving during his hospital recovery. Additionally, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) confirmed they spoke with McConnell within the last 48 hours, marking the most recent public confirmation of contact since his hospitalization.

The Senator continues to improve and remains engaged with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.
