In Singapore, 51-year-old Mohamad Zakir Jaafar pleaded guilty on July 7 to two charges of rape and one charge of molestation involving a 71-year-old woman diagnosed with dementia. The victim, who was found mentally incapable of managing her finances and welfare since 2021, was initially assisted by Zakir's wife after being found lost in their neighborhood in June 2022.

Zakir's wife helped the woman return home using the address on her identity card and later informed Zakir, suspecting the victim was senile. Following this, Zakir returned to the woman's home at least four more times between June 2022 and January 2023. In one incident around 1 a.m. in November 2022, Zakir showed the victim a pornographic video on his phone and coerced her into performing sexual acts that constituted rape.

The offences were uncovered when the victim's son reviewed closed-circuit television footage at her residence. Zakir, who was living with his wife at the time, reportedly believed he could evade detection due to the victim's condition.
