Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell is continuing his recovery in a hospital while the Senate is out of session, according to his staff. McConnell was admitted on June 14, with his office stating he is "receiving excellent care." However, no further details about his health condition or whether he will be present at the Capitol when the Senate reconvenes next week have been released.

A statement issued a week after his admission noted that McConnell would not be voting that week. On the following Thursday, his office said he "continues to improve" and appreciates the support he has received during his hospitalization. Since then, no additional updates have been provided, and a spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment.

The 84-year-old senator, the longest-serving Senate leader in history before stepping down from that role, has faced several hospitalizations in recent years. Notably, while still Republican leader, McConnell was hospitalized with a concussion in March 2023 after a fall in a Washington hotel, causing him to miss several weeks of work.

McConnell was first elected to the Senate in 1984 and served as Republican leader from 2007 until last year, holding both majority and minority leader positions during that time. His current health issues come as Senate Republicans navigate a narrow majority ahead of the midterm elections.
