A recent poll conducted by Wedgewood Polls indicates that 75 percent of Maine voters would want Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner to drop out of the race if another controversy emerges. The survey, released Monday amid reports of sexual assault allegations against Platner, also found that 20 percent of voters believe he should remain in the race.

The poll showed that 65 percent of voters who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election want Platner to withdraw, while 28 percent want him to stay. Among voters who backed neither Harris nor President Trump, 78 percent favored Platner dropping out, with only 13 percent supporting his continuation.

The allegations, reported by Politico, stem from a former girlfriend accusing Platner of sexual assault. The accuser, Racicot, told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the 2021 incident and her decision to speak out were motivated by a desire to "get my life back" and were not politically driven.

Platner has denied the allegations, calling the report inaccurate. He stated he would take time to reflect on the best path forward for Maine, its people, his political movement, and his goal of defeating incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker expressed belief in Racicot’s claims, declaring it was "curtains" for Platner’s campaign and referencing documentation Racicot shared with Politico to support her accusations.

Wedgewood Polls noted on social platform X that the poll was released earlier than planned due to the imminent news.
