President Trump received a ceremonial welcome with military salutes and a flyover upon his arrival Tuesday in Ankara, Turkey, for a two-day NATO Summit. He began the visit with a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating he had no concerns about selling F-35 fighter jets to Turkey and announced that the U.S. would be lifting sanctions that had previously prevented the sale.

Trump maintained his critical stance toward NATO allies, expressing disappointment over their insufficient support in the Iran conflict and their failure to pay what he considers a fair share in the alliance. He remarked, “I was very disappointed in NATO. And, frankly, if [the summit] weren’t held in Turkey where my friend happens to be a very strong leader … it’s possible that I wouldn’t have attended.”

Back in the United States, Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner (D) is facing intense pressure to withdraw from the race against the incumbent senator following sexual assault allegations that surfaced on Monday. His political and financial support quickly unraveled after the accusations.

In Michigan, Democratic Senate hopefuls prepared for a debate Tuesday night, following the recent exit of state lawmaker Mallory McMorrow from the race. The debate will feature Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) and former Wayne County health director Abdul El-Sayed.
