President Donald Trump announced on July 6, 2026, that Walmart will lower prices on many of its products, including beef, after his administration requested these price drops to coincide with the United States' 250th anniversary. Trump described Walmart as "a truly patriotic company who loves the U.S.A."
Walmart, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, confirmed it is reducing prices on thousands of items across categories such as groceries, household essentials, outdoor living, toys, and apparel. Price cuts will apply at both Walmart stores and Sam’s Club, a membership-only wholesale retailer.
Specific reductions include ground beef dropping from $6.74 to $5.94 per pound (about a 12% decrease), a 2.25-pound bag of fresh red cherries from $11.18 to $5.63 (a 49% cut), and 24-packs of Coca-Cola products from $14.97 to $9.97 (a 33% decrease). Walmart did not confirm whether these cuts were directly made at the behest of the Trump administration.
The announcement comes amid rising inflation, which had been nearing the Federal Reserve's 2% target earlier in the year but surged recently due to the war with Iran. Gas prices remain elevated, with the average price per gallon in the U.S. at $3.79 as of Monday evening, according to AAA. This is a slight decrease from $3.86 per gallon last week but still over $0.50 higher than the $3.14 per gallon price on the same day last year.
Trump has been emphasizing the high cost of living as a key issue for his party.
