Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has announced the launch of its Denza Z electric supercar in Europe, targeting competition with Porsche’s renowned 911 model. The Shenzhen-based company revealed plans to debut the Denza Z, equipped with BYD’s self-developed intelligent DiSus body control system, at the UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Denza Z is a two-door sports car featuring BYD’s blade battery packs, designed to enhance energy density and resist overheating. The DiSus system is claimed to keep passengers securely in place during high-speed cornering and prevent vehicle rollovers.

This European introduction is part of BYD’s broader strategy to boost sales beyond mainland China by launching more models and expanding its distribution network. Eric Han, a senior manager at Shanghai consultancy Suolei, noted that "a vehicle to lure international consumers away from global marques like Porsche can help BYD convince more overseas drivers of its quality and reliability." He also highlighted that the energy crisis caused by the war in Iran is acting as a catalyst for Chinese EV makers’ international expansion.

BYD’s move signals its growing ambition in the premium vehicle segment and its intent to establish a stronger foothold in developed markets.
