A man was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas, on July 7, 2026. According to an ICE spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 6:50 AM CT as part of a targeted enforcement operation to arrest an illegal alien.

The driver, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, attempted to evade arrest. The spokesperson stated that Salgado Araujo drove his vehicle into an ICE vehicle and did not comply with verbal commands. He allegedly "weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer," which led the officer to fire his weapon in self-defense.

Salgado Araujo was struck by gunfire, taken to a hospital, and later died from his wounds. The FBI Houston is leading an investigation into the potential assault on a federal law enforcement officer.

Local news outlet KHOU reported that the shooting took place in Houston’s East End. The incident adds to ongoing criticism of immigration enforcement tactics during the Trump administration, which has faced backlash after previous fatal encounters involving federal immigration authorities.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
