A United States immigration agent fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas, on July 7, 2026, during an attempt to stop his vehicle, according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE described Salgado Araujo as a Mexican national and "illegal alien" who tried to evade arrest during a targeted enforcement operation. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, stated that Salgado Araujo ignored commands to stop, rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE officer.

This incident marks the latest fatality involving ICE officers since President Trump took office. Past cases, including the January shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, involved claims by immigration officials that their officers were attacked, though these claims were vigorously disputed.

The deadly confrontation occurred amid a recent nationwide increase in ICE arrests, with immigration officers reportedly apprehending about 2,000 migrants daily last week, according to Reuters.
