As Europe experiences intense heatwaves, Thailand is capitalizing on the rising demand for cooling solutions and travel relief. The Southeast Asian nation has launched a campaign by the Tourism Authority of Thailand encouraging European travelers to escape scorching summer temperatures by visiting during Thailand’s milder rainy season, offering discounted hotel rates and less crowded destinations.

Simultaneously, Thailand’s air conditioner exports to Europe have surged significantly. Commerce ministry data shows exports jumped 41.3% year-on-year to US$130.1 million in May 2026, with shipments in the first five months rising 16.5% to US$696.8 million. Europe accounted for 18% of Thailand’s AC exports last year, making it the second largest market after the US. Key European buyers include France and Germany, with exports to Germany increasing 37.2% and to France 13.9% during January-May 2026.

The export growth aligns with reports from German retailers facing shortages of portable air conditioners and electric fans amid temperatures climbing well above seasonal norms. Much of Europe’s housing is designed to retain heat, increasing vulnerability to frequent heatwaves.

These developments highlight how Europe’s heatwave is creating business opportunities for Thailand in both tourism and manufacturing sectors.
