Donald Trump has asked a judge not to order the release of over $5 million held in a court-controlled account that he owes E Jean Carroll. This payment relates to Carroll's successful 2023 sexual abuse and defamation civil trial against Trump. Approximately six weeks after Carroll's victory, Trump deposited the jury award plus 11% interest into the court account, which now totals about $5.8 million.

The request to withhold the funds follows the Supreme Court's decision on June 29 not to review Trump's appeal. For the funds to be released, a judge must issue an order directing the court-controlled fund to do so. Trump has denied all wrongdoing in the case.
