An Australian man, aged 39, has died in a Bali immigration detention centre while awaiting deportation. Officials from Bali immigration reported that the man was taken into detention on Friday, local time, due to an alleged breach of visa conditions following public complaints lodged in March.

According to a spokesperson from Bali immigration's Ngurah Rai office, officers monitoring the detainee via CCTV noticed he remained motionless for an extended period inside the rest room. Officers immediately attended the scene and found the individual unresponsive. Staff checked vital signs, administered first aid including supplemental oxygen, and coordinated with the nearest hospital to dispatch an ambulance. Medical personnel provided initial treatment before transferring the man to the Bali Jimbaran General Hospital for intensive care.

The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, extended his deepest condolences to the individual's family.

Immigration officials stated that despite numerous opportunities to resolve his immigration status cooperatively, the man repeatedly failed to comply with official summonses issued by officers.
