The Wodonga Raiders Football and Netball Club, a regional sports club competing in the Ovens and Murray League near the Victorian-NSW border, has been ordered to redraw a fundraising raffle after a committee member won the first prize, a $70,000 ute.
The club sold 2,500 tickets at $100 each for the raffle, which was conducted on social media. The handover of the prize was put on hold when it was discovered that the winner was ineligible due to their committee membership.
The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) intervened and ordered the raffle to be redrawn on July 16. The club confirmed that no additional tickets will be sold for the redraw, and some tickets were refunded following the initial draw.
Wodonga Raiders president Zennon McCarty told ABC News, "It just slipped by us," when asked how ineligible tickets were included in the first draw. He also confirmed the refund of some tickets after the initial draw.
The redraw is necessary to ensure compliance with Victorian raffle requirements.
