TAIPEI — The United States has emerged as the top supplier of helium to Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, according to a Nikkei Asia analysis of customs data. This shift comes as the ongoing war involving Iran and export restrictions imposed by China have constrained global supplies of helium, a vital gas used in chip production.

Helium is essential for the semiconductor industry in these Asian countries, which depend on a steady supply to manufacture chips. With disruptions from Iran and China, these nations are turning increasingly to the US to meet their helium needs.

Nikkei Asia's findings highlight the growing market share the US is capturing in the helium supply chain amid these geopolitical challenges.
