On Sunday, a shooting at the annual Bite of Seattle food festival near Seattle's Space Needle left three people dead and four others injured during a suspected gunfight. The victims were identified as Junior Cee Niko Semo, 19; Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, 44; and Ashley Whitehead, 56.

Residents of Seattle mourned the loss on Monday, July 28th, with a candlelight vigil attended by the city's mayor, police chief, and dozens of others. Online fundraisers for two of the victims raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist with funeral expenses.

Villalba was remembered in a GoFundMe description as "a devoted husband, loving father of three, and a loyal friend who would do anything for anyone." The write-up added, "His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, and everyone who knew him remembers his gentle spirit and willingness to help others." His family stated that the funds raised would help cover funeral costs and support them through their loss.

Family members of Ashley Whitehead shared that she was standing in line with her daughter, waiting for cotton candy, when the gunshots erupted and ended her life. They described her as someone for whom family was everything; she had recently moved from Alabama to the West Coast to be closer to her daughter Zoie and shared heartfelt "I love you's" with her eldest daughter.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson condemned the violence, stating, "This is not acceptable," and called for an end to gun violence in the community.

Washington state Governor Bob Ferguson expressed the community's shock on social media, saying they were "struggling to make sense of how an iconic community celebration could end in gunfire."

The city continues to grieve as investigations into the incident proceed.
