Research conducted by Next American Era and Morning Consult indicates that despite ongoing political polarization, a vast majority of American voters prioritize pragmatic, results-oriented leadership over ideological conflict ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
While the Democratic Party is engaged in a defining debate about its future, amplified by its progressive wing and primary election dynamics, the broader American electorate sends a different message. Voters who participate in primaries differ from those deciding general elections, and the general electorate favors moderate policy approaches.
Moderate policies consistently outperform both progressive and MAGA alternatives on key issues such as energy costs, tariffs, workforce development, and market competition. Specifically, moderates hold a 19-point advantage over progressives on tariffs, a 14-point lead on market competition and workforce development, and a 27-point advantage over MAGA policies on AI oversight. They also lead by 19 points on gas prices and tariffs compared to MAGA alternatives.
These findings suggest that American voters are choosing policies they believe can be effectively implemented and improve everyday life, emphasizing results over political fighting.
