Power has been restored to several parts of Kenya after a widespread blackout left large areas without electricity overnight on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The outage affected regions including North Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, parts of the capital Nairobi, and the Central Rift Valley, causing significant disruption to businesses and daily activities.

Kenya Power, the utility serving more than 9.6 million customers, has not yet provided an explanation for the cause of the outage. Crews are continuing efforts to restore power to the remaining parts of Nairobi and the coastal region.

Kenya has experienced several major nationwide blackouts in recent years, including significant grid failures in September and December 2024.
